Spring into Spring [Through My Lens Nr. 138]

I hope that by now the first flowers have started to rear their pretty heads. It feels magical to stumble across delicate and colorful spring flowers in early spring. Especially after the cold, dark winter months. But as we emerge from the other side of winter, you'll start spotting early spring blooms. Theyll lift your spirits and remind you that spring is just around the corner.

Thank you all for joining me in another week of "Through My Lens". I am looking forward to your submissions this week!

Early Spring and Flowers at Home

I would love to say that spring has sprung completely and that we are covered in many colors in the garden, but as of now the only color of flowers that is visible at home is the one from those in vases. We did have some spurt of rosemary and other garden plants, but mostly the colors comes from the inside. Luckily the sun has been kind and it provides Beni with enough opportunity to relax and soak it all in. I am still way on my Pacific Northwest road trip and I hope to share more updates with you soon. Meanwhile, let's enjoy these early spring images from home.

Kravica Watterfalls in Spring [Through My Lens Nr. 137]

In spring, this stunning mini-Niagara of 25m cascades pounds itself into a dramatic, steamy fury. In summer the falls are less impressive but surrounding pools become shallow enough for swimming. The falls are a 15-minute walk from a car park that's 4km down a dead-end road turning off the M6 (CapljinaLjubuki Rd) at Km 42.5. There's no public transport, but many Mostar group tours include a visit to the falls along with Blagaj and Pocitelj.

Thank you all for joining me in another week of "Through My Lens". I am looking forward to your submissions this week!

Our Pacific Notrthwest Road Trip

A new huge road trip is on! As you are reading this I am flying over the Atlantic ocean, westbound for Seattle, where our Pacific Northwest road trip is beginning. My friend Selma and I will be traveling the west coast, on the Highway 101 through Washington State and Oregon for two weeks and we will be visiting the most prominent landmarks and cities along the way.

But that's not all. I will be staying an additional two weeks in the states with my family, during which time I will be traveling to new and familiar places, making this journey my longest stay in the USA to this date!

There will be some automated "Through My Lens" posts during that time, and I will have my laptop with me so I will be dropping in and sharing some updates from my trip. After that I will be back with many new sights and stories. See you all again soon!

Holding On [Through My Lens Nr. 136]

There is just that one bit of winter we must go through before spring arrives. They say the night is the darkest before the dawn and I think that when it comes to seasonal change, no turer words have been spoken. These images were taken in Bijelo Polje, a small village on the outskirts of Mostar, We had some snowfall on that day, and the woods were ice cold. Beni was with me on that day, all dressed up. He didn't mind the cold. How is the transition of the seasons treating you?

Thank you all for joining me in another week of "Through My Lens". I am looking forward to your submissions this week!

Lunch at Restaurant Viva in Posusje

Last Sunday my friends and I made a one hour road trip to a nearby town called Posusje, in order to have lunch at the newly opened restaurant called Viva. We arrived around 1 in the afternoon. Since it was midday on a Sunday, there weren't as many people on the streets. Posusje is a small town, and doesn't really offer much. It's mostly visited by travelers coming in north from the Blidinje Nature Resort or visiting from the west, where Croatia and the city of Split are. I was aware of this new restaurant because it was renovated and designed by the architect who did our houses, but we also know the head chef Suzana, who we wanted to surprise on that day. I hope you will enjoy these images and the food as well.

Inside of the restaurant you will be immediately surprised by the new and modern design, attention to details, colors, soft light and comfortable seating. The plates are made out of clay and are stamped and made special for the restaurant. The menu features pizzas out of a modern oven (mix of wood oven and gas), meats, fish, appetizers, sides and lots more.

We ate the rolled chicken breast filled with pecans and wrapped in bacon, with a blue cheese cream sauce. On the side we had baked potatoes, a potato souffle and asian-style zucchini. It goes without saying that the food was beyond delicious. Before the main meal they serve bread and two kinds of spreads, and with the entree you get fresh home made bread and rolls.

After our main meal I want to the upper balcony of the restaurant where the modern features of the design were prominent as well. But I had to return to the table because our desert waited for us. It's a lava cake with ice cream and a red berry sauce.

Of course the main draw is the cutting of the lave cake and the ensuing river of white and milk chocolate. The desert is served warm, with some cold ice cream on the side to cut it and give contrast. The cupcake itself is moist and vanilla flavored, with a great crust. We really enjoyed desert.

We returned home later that day, and I managed to snap a photo of the plains and mountains of west Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are few places in these regions, but some great views. We had a fun and delicious day in Posusje.

Off Season in the Old Town of Mostar [Through My Lens Nr. 135]

We finally had a sunny late winter day in Mostar. During the day, my friends and I made a day trip to nearby Posusje, but more on that later in the week. Sunday evening was filled with a walk through the Old Town of Mostar. Currently it's the off season, which means not many people are visiting. But as March goes on so will the crowds of tourists. It's only a matter of time. Meanwhile I got to make some evening images of the most prominent parts without people in them. That's also an unusual sight.

Thank you all for joining me in another week of "Through My Lens". I am looking forward to your submissions this week!
